You may not like to hear it but if you have it, you need to know about it. We are talking about bad breath here. It is certainly not going to be your best feature because it can affect other people around you more than what it can do to you. As a matter of fact, bad breath can affect relationships.

Good news is that you can get rid of the bad breath and prevent it in the future quite easily. All it is going to take is your time that you are going to spend on maintaining good oral hygiene and visiting your dentist. These are the practices that you need to stick with anyway.

How to know if you have bad breath?

Since bad bacteria can occur due to bacteria in the mouth, you can see if you have inflammation there. Bacteria cause inflammation. Inflamed area releases smells which resemble like sulfur. The bad breath usually occurs in the morning when you get out of the bed.

One way to know if you have bad breath is to smell the floss you have just used. Let the floss get dry before you smell it.

What causes bad breath?

Since most of the people do not report about bad breath, there are no reliable statistics available about the percentage of total population in this regard. However, it is estimated that in 80% of the cases, mouth is the main source of bad breath. For instance, conditions like cavities, gum disease and infection in tonsils are the major reasons for bad breath because each of these cases is resulted by bacterial interaction.

However, there are certain health conditions too that can cause bad breath. Those conditions may include liver disease, diabetes, respiratory tract infection, and chronic bronchitis.

Take care of your teeth and gums

Taking care of your oral hygiene is the first line of defense if you want to fight off bad breath. You have to make sure that you brush and floss your teeth on daily basis. If you ignore brushing and flossing your teeth for a few days, you will have quite bad breath even if your oral health is good. The purpose of brushing and flossing should be the removal of food debris and bad bacteria from the mouth. Moreover, you need to use an antibacterial mouthwash. It can surely freshen up your breath in good way.

Visiting the dentist

You need to visit the dentist, not only to prevent the bad breath but to ensure better oral health. Your oral cavity will be checked during a dental visit and your dentist will give you nice advice about taking care of your oral health and hygiene.
